One Shot Wednesday – Week 35

Welcome to One Shot Wednesday, celebrating week 35, my name is Pete Marshall, and this week I will be your host.

Before we begin however I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words……

Last week something happened in the blogosphere which resulted in our own Leslie Moon (Moondustwriter) having her email address hacked into, she has since changed her email address BUT if you receive any emails from Leslie aka Moondustwriter do not open them and contact us immediately so that we can reassure you accordingly. The person associated with this hacking is also causing mischief by forwarding slanderous emails under another email address about Leslie. One Stop Poetry DOES NOT support any such action. We are involved with One Stop Poetry solely for the promotion of Poetry & the Arts ; any email that falls into your inbox that says otherwise or is detrimental to any member of the One Stop Team needs to be outed and the person spreading such slander put to shame. These actions are considered Cyber harassment!

Last Friday, Brian Miller wrote an excellent article on Blogging & commenting, Friday Poetically, if you haven’t read this please do, as it captures the very essence of why blogging can be fun and how to build yourselves an audience.

On One Shot Wednesday, however, the very reason we started this was because we appreciate how hard commenting on everybody can be. The success of One Shot Wednesday is because of  the participation of all you amazing people. Please, therefore, do not feel that you need to comment on every poem. One Shot Wednesday is a platform to help YOU, the poet, promote and publicise your work as well as share, discover, learn and meet new poets. The number of comments that you wish to make is your choice, the number of poems you wish to read is also your choice.

Commenting can lead to a greater social interaction with other poets, if thats what you want..

Okay, if you are new to One Shot Wednesday here’s how it works;

1. Write an original poem and post it to your blog

2. Link back to One Shot Wednesday from your post

3. Sign up in the Mr Linky list,(use the URL from your blog) linking directly to your post, AFTER you’ve posted it. Mr Linky will be open from 5pm EST Tuesday (10pm UK)  until 1 am EST Thursday (6 am UK). If you need help with this, please ask in the comment box.

4. Go visit others that have posted. This is a great way to learn new forms, meet new poets and, gain inspiration for your next piece. Though this is not mandatory, we encourage you to visit at least one other poet and give some helpful feedback.

5. For some of you I need to stress – don’t feel that you need to comment on each poem, take your time and enjoy the read.

6. Please only link ONE poem, the more poems that poets link we tend to find that the less they are read!

Thank you for coming and for your weekly support.

Let the poetry begin….pete

Should be able to read more poems/stories this week – feeling better (had debilitating cold of sorts, dental issues), and managing my writing schedule a tad better. Apologies for the drop-off these last two weeks: money’s been a bigger-than-usual issue in my house recently (such is the case with many folk these days, no doubt).

glad to be here for another Wednesday…now, a brief testimonial…about 6 weeks ago I posted some words and read some words, I think I received 3 responses…each week I discovered more words and more kindness amongst the contributors here…with Sunday’s picture prompt, I received 25 answers to 2 pieces and smiled as I read each one…each visit to One Stop has offered me a chance to share, to read and at times, to breathe…an adventure into the minds and skills of many gifted and talented individuals…after reading the mission statement of One Stop the other day, I can clearly say, you have succeeded…thanks to Peter, Leslie, Brian, Adam and all the wonderful words here…Peace, hp

    • admin says:

thank you for your comment…at times words like these are what we need to hear because it reminds us where we have come from and what we have achieved. One Stop is for poets, it was never for Leslie, Bri, Rich or I…it was for us all…thank you Pete

  20. Aleza says:

Yay, One Shot Wednesday! Wrote mine reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallly fast about an offensive dude I saw wandering around this afternoon in Vegas. So many offensive dudes in Vegas, so little time. Off to read Brian’s “Friday Poetically” now. Thanks guys!!

    • Aleza says:

Also, there will always be haters and people who try to break your spirit, but if you answer with positivity and a refusal to stoop to a lower level, you will always prevail. From what I can see, you guys seem to handle this blog and your roles with grace.

  21. Marian says:

yay one shot! thank you so much for all you do, i love the community here!
my poem this week was a hard one. sigh. happy wednesday! (er, tuesday night!)

  22. We really do appreciate each of you. The part I love the most is the community – many friendships have come from this group and much inspiration.
I am grateful to each of you for your support this week – means alot.
Also regarding the cyber harassment if you know anyone who has gone through it please contact me. There is actually more help out there then I knew about. Read my article – “Cyber Harassment is more than Inconvenient” http://bit.ly/hKunz3

  23. Lady Nyo says:

First, thank you all again for OneShot!

Secondly, Leslie, I am so sorry to hear of this. Hacking and all the cyber nonsense is very trying….and destructive. Two years ago this happened to me, and the point of the cyber harassment was to embarrass and shut me up. It was a horrible time. Women seem to be hit especially hard in cyberspace by cyperpaths.

May you know you’re supported by so many. Thank you for what you have done for me.

Steve, I’m so sorry, dear friend to hear you are under the weather.

    Lady Nyo

  24. HisFireFly says:

How blessed that we have more than One Shot!

I am relatively new to OSP and have met some lovely folks from here.
I received an email, to which you are referring. I was surprised that
a copy was even sent to me. I am not close with the person in
    mention.
That aside, here is my contribution this week, happy one shot to all.

Thanks Peter for hosting. I’m sorry that Leslie has to deal with such harassment. This opportunity to read so much wonderful work is a true treasure. It is great, too, to have a chance to participate. Hope the culprit is identified and you all hang in there.

  34. Leslie says:

Thanks for offering this community of writers… a treat for me to be here again.

  35. Thanks for another opportunity to share One Shot! The poem I wrote for this week- ‘That I Can Be’ is very different for me. It rhymes for one! And secondly it has a positive message. Please take a look. Feedback is treasured. :) Thanks everyone. -Jam

  36. Thanks again for another Wednesday looked forward to by all who love being here. It’s one of my early poems I’ve posted here. I’m in the middle of other deadlines right now and rather ‘wingless’ for newer lines. But I hope you’d enjoy it.

  74. Hello, all!

As a newbie, I must say I quite missed all of you talented folk on Sunday. This week I went for a take on Steinbeck with my own twist: “Apes of Wrath,” concerning our alarming level of apathy in connecting with the world and universe around us. It’s fairly bleak, but one glance at news outlets depicts our priorities awry. Hope you enjoy. Oh, and I threw in a few nods, which I’m sure a few of you will catch. Looking forward to reading some of your work!
